Connection Cafe July 2021

What’s happening for seniors in the Upper Clutha?

Our Connection Café on July 29th, ‘What’s happening for seniors in the Upper Clutha?’ had a fantastic turnout, and we were inspired and impressed by all the community-led activity in this space.

We heard from Colleen Carr about the Hāwea Friendship & Support Group; Helen Millar from Prime Timers; Dell Taylor from St John Aged Care Support; and Marie Roxburgh from Age Concern.

Marie highlighted findings of the 2019 Next Chapter survey, conducted by Central Otago District Council into older people living in the Alexandra Basin.  Results showed that older people wanted to stay in the area but there were barriers, including transport.

We also heard from many in the audience – made up of service providers, club members and recent retirees wanting to know more – about a whole range of senior activities, including sport and exercise, social support services and volunteering.
